How to Learn English from Zero: A Roadmap from A1
A practical order for developing grammar, vocabulary, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking at A1–A2.

The biggest mistake when starting English from zero is choosing too many resources at once. At beginner level, small consistent steps and a clear sequence produce better progress.
An A1–A2 foundation is not only grammar. Understanding, speaking, reading and writing simple English should develop together.
The first month: sounds, basic sentences and everyday words
Begin with pronunciation, personal pronouns, the verb to be, Present Simple and vocabulary for everyday topics. Use each new rule in 5–10 simple sentences about your own life.
- Greetings and introductions
- Numbers, time and dates
- Family, home, study and work
- Simple questions and negative sentences
Combine all four skills from the beginning
Do not memorize a word only through translation. Hear it in audio, read it in a sentence, write it and say it aloud. Repeating short dialogues strengthens pronunciation and sentence structure at the same time.
Keep the weekly routine simple
Daily practice of 25–40 minutes is more useful than one long session each week. Outside class, alternate vocabulary, listening, reading and writing, then reserve time for review.
Signs that you are ready to move toward A2
You can speak simply about yourself, family, routine and a past event; write a short message; understand slow everyday conversation; and find the main idea in a short text. Mistakes at this stage are natural.
When learning English from zero, consistency is more important than speed. One structured program, short daily practice and teacher guidance create a strong foundation for General English and future exam preparation.
